January pony Updates.

Happy New Year to all and let us hope that this year brings you peace and contentment.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the Pony Day after Christmas in that biting east wind. We all appreciated your coming and the ponies love having visitors to lavish attention on them.

They are all in good condition having grown lovely long coats and by golly they need it up at Brimpts. The weather man says that today the temperature is -12. Fortunately, even though the water tanks in the fields have frozen solid, the spring that runs through the field is still flowing. They are having hay, both in the field and in the feeder in the adoption paddock. They all stand in a line, without bickering, eating so they must be enjoying it. Too cold to argue!

We are making preparations for Charlie and possibly Rolo to go to Lorna’s for schooling. They both have super temperaments and are very affectionate, but, having a 260kg pony pushing into you can be a problem; so boundaries have to be set. Once learned they become much more manageable. George was the same before he went to school and he has come back as a complete gentleman and will only come in very close if invited.

Golden Flame sets her own comfort zones, either she will allow herself to be caught or it’s a case of “chase me; see if you can get anywhere near”. When she is hormonal, for want of a better term, she will put her head in your arms for attention. As I have said before, once caught she is like an old shoe, very comfortable and relaxed.

They, like people, have their own characters, likes and dislikes and it is our responsibility to know how to look after them and to get the best out of them. They are always the same, once they know that you can care for them that trust will last a lifetime or until you change it.
