December Pony Update

The glutinous morass that was the adoption paddock has been scraped out by the farm excavator and old trees from the forestry have been chipped and spread out all over the area and through the gates. Now the paddocks are lovely and clean and so easy to walk on. The ponies thought it was wonderful and tried rolling in the heaps as the chipper blew it over the fence. We will keep them off it for a little while so that it can settle and look half decent for a short time.

During the last week the ponies were wormed and all went well. They were all measured to give us the correct dose for each of them. Even Boss took his without the usual battle of wills. The effects are virtually instant, so they should be well set now for winter. Another job not required until the spring.

Golden Flame has put on a little weight since she was last wormed but we are not too worried about that; she will need the extra insulation for the oncoming winter. Charlie and George are virtually the same weight as last time and are in super condition. Little Rolo is gradually putting on weight and still seems to be growing. We give them extra minerals in a mix of a chaff base with a little oil in which we bury a piece of apple and a sliced carrot. Golden Flame and Rolo do not like chaff mix but will sort out the goodies, so we operate a little subterfuge to get them to eat it, the others wolf it down.

They are all well set for the winter and are enjoying the hay given to them at the same time they are topping up with the grass in the fields.

Please remember the 29th December and come along to Brimpts and see the ponies and the volunteers, if you can. We would all love to see you. Please telephone 01626 355314 to book a place if you can come and see us. Everyone, both two and four legged, wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
